Hi, my name is Penny and my job is a Freelance Equestrian coach in jersey. I am a BHSI (Stage 5 Performance Coach in Complete Horsemanship). I am an established coach in a variety of disciplines with over 25 years coaching experience.
I am passionate about helping riders (whatever level or age) to enjoy their horses and achieve their goals. I was fortunate to grow up in the New Forest and enjoyed riding ponies from a young age. I then gained further knowledge by completing an HND in Equine Studies at Coventry University / Warwickshire College. This is where I started doing coaching qualifications too. I then gained experience in a few equestrian jobs and then whilst working as Assistant Director of Riding at Millfield School I passed my BHSI in 2000 at the age of 25. Since completing that exam, I feel I have gained extensive experience in coaching and life and am still learning!
I have competed in a number of disciplines with my passion being producing horses for showjumping and working hunter competitions where I jumped to 1.30m and successfully at county level. But I actually do love teaching flatwork and cross country too. I also really enjoy working with teams and have had the privilege of being Chef d’equipe for the Jersey teams for BSJA over the years as well as for the GB Junior Tetrathlon Team at the Europeans in Germany and Switzerland. I also was also the travelling stable manager for the gold medal winning para dressage teams in Denmark. A bit of variety!
My time is mainly spent doing what I what I love, which is coaching riders, horses and ponies. I also make sure I spend quality time with my partner Rob, my family and friends. When I have time I do try to fit in other hobbies too which are quite varied!
